KOK World Series in Finland this Friday

The King of Kings organization (KOK) debuts in Helsinki, Finland Friday with a world championship fight card.

As previously mentioned, a new KOK World Middleweight champion will be crowned when Finnish fighter Daniel Forsberg collides with Raimonds Aukstikalnis of Latvia.

Forsberg, a rugged southpaw, got the better of the young Aukstikalnis in their previous encounter at KOK 61 in Riga last October.

The Finn established control of the bout by round two, and appeared to hurt his foe with some lefts to the body in the third and final round.

Aukstikalnis landed some good shots in the bout and bloodied Forsberg’s nose, but it wasn’t enough to slow down Forsberg.

With the rematch being contested over the championship distance of five rounds and taking place on Forsberg’s home turf, it figures to be a real test for the young Latvian.

Featherweight Contender Tournament
The featherweight category (65 kg) is one of the most exciting divisions in K-1 rules fighting, with the lighter fighters usually fighting at a faster tempo and with higher work rates.

The KOK featherweight division is currently ruled by Stanislav “Bad Boy” Renita of Moldova. Renita successfully defended his KOK crown with a points victory over countryman Dmitrii Sirbu in Chisinau in December.

On Friday in Helsinki, a four-man tournament takes place with the winner being in line to challenge for the title.

Janis Freimanis of Latvia, Poland’s Dariusz Skoczek, and Finns Pok Bill and Lauri Suomela will vie for the tournament title and a higher ranking.

Freimanis and Suomela previously met at KOK 61, with the Latvian the victor by decision.
